Tourism arrivals in Europe
Nearly 90% of tourism traffic in Europe is generated by Europeans travelling within their continent.
However, the remaining 10% constitute a significant volume of traffic and it is in these markets -
the long-haul markets - that ETC is active.
With the time lag that is inevitably a feature of tourism statistics, the most recent full-year data currently available are those for 2003.
Headline figures are shown below.
2003 was an atypical year for inbound tourism from outside Europe, affected as it was by the SARS outbreaks in some countries
and by the hostilities in Iraq. 2004 will prove to be a better year and the first official data should appear towards the end of 2005.
