ETC General Meeting #94
Budapest (Hungary)

ETC General Meeting #94 and Board of Directors #86 in Budapest, Hungary, organised with the support of the Hungarian Tourism Agency. The event registered a high level of participation and was marked by the election of two new Vice Presidents Mr. Andrea Preiti and Mr. Renaldas Ciuzas, the news of NBTC Holland Marketing re-joining ETC as of 2018, the renewed collaboration with the European Commission and the approval of two new Associate members from the private sector: ADARA and HiSeas International.

Destination Europe Brazil Roadshow 2017
Florianopolis, Porto Alegre and Curitiba (Brazil)

The Destination Europe Brazil Roadshow visit the cities of Florianopolis, Porto Alegre and Curitiba. More than 190 travel agents and operators took part in the three seminars which were organized with the participation of the tourist offices in Brazil of Belgium-Flanders, Czech Republic, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

ITB China 2017
Shanghai (China)

Europe was the first ever partner destination of ITB China, the new marketplace for the Chinese travel industry. ETC managed a dedicated Europe Pavilion at the trade show which featured 60 exhibitors from a multitude of destinations paired with strong individual national presentations of other major European destinations. European culture was showcased during the official opening ceremony of ITB China, which featured cultural performances from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic and Italy. Co-funded by the European Commission, this initiatives served as a preparatory actions towards the 2018 EU-China Tourism Year.

ETC General Meeting #93
Porto (Portugal)

ETC members met in Porto, Portugal on the occasion of the General Meeting #93 and Board of Directors #84. This event was marked by the re-election of the Mr Peter De Wilde, CEO of Flanders Tourism, as President of the European Travel Commission for the next three-year term, as well as by the organisation of a Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Workshop during which ETC members discussed solutions to improving Europe’s competitiveness.

The New York Times Travel Show 2017
New York (USA)

ETC and its member NTOs of Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia and Slovakia were present at The New York Times Travel Show between 27th-29th January 2017. Visitors of the EUROPE booth were able to embark on a 360° journey through "European Wonders" and participate in a competition for a chance to win two Eurail First Class Passes. This activity was possible thanks to the support of the European Union.

ETC members met in Slovakia on the occasion of the General Meeting #92 and Board of Directors #82.

Destination Europe China Summit 2016
Beijing (China)

On 26th October 2016, ETC's China Operations Group invited local media and operators to the Destination Europe China Summit. The programme included a press conference with the presence of Ms Lowri Evans, Director-General of DG GROW, European Commission; followed by technical presentations of 10 European destinations and one to one meetings between destinations, local trade and media.
The event served also to present the 2018 EU-China Tourism Year.

A Taste of Europe - Culinary and cultural tour
New York (USA)

On 4th October 2016, the ETC's USA Operations Group invited media and operators to experience a taste of Europe, a celebration of regional gastronomy and culture. The evening's discussion featured current insights on American's travel preferences and why it is important to plan travel to Europe now.

27th European Journalism Prize - Award Ceremony
São Paulo (Brazil)

The traditional award promoted by ETC's Operations Group in Brazil reached its 27th edition in 2016. Brazilian journalism professionals were invited to submit their articles on Europe in one of the eight award categories through the website www.concursoeuropajornalismo.com.br. The Award Ceremony was held at the Consulate General of Portugal in São Paulo on 27th September.

ETC members met in Cyprus on the occasion of the General Meeting #91 and Board of Directors #80.

ETC and ETOA joint conference on Brand Europe
London (United Kingdom)

The ETC and ETOA joint conference on how Europe is performing as a destination paid a particular attention on some of the most important origin markets.

Chaired by Professor Tony Travers of the London School of Economics, it featured a presentation by the European Commission on its priorities in this area, a talk by Gideon Rachman of the Financial Times on how Europe is perceived by the rest of the world and a series of panel discussions on three source markets, the USA, China and Russia including leading operators from those markets.

There was also original research featuring which destinations in Europe are doing well, and which origin markets are showing the most promise, and why.

1st ETC Marketing Group Meeting

The very first meeting of the new ETC Marketing Group (MKG) offered ETC members the opportunity to shape the marketing strategy and development of their organisation. The event was a unique opportunity to share insights and best practices in branding and destination marketing and learn about practical solutions through presentations of successful case study examples by top-level experts in the field. In addition, this first meeting of the MKG served to discuss leadership, set goals and brainstorm ideas, which will help lay the groundwork of ETC’s marketing activities over the coming months.

ETC-UNWTO International Seminar
Antwerp (Belgium)

The ETC-UNWTO International Seminar on the Decision-making Process of Meetings, Congresses, Conventions and Incentives Organisers, organised with the support of Visit Flanders, gathered more than 100 top professionals within the meetings industry and the tourism sector.

The ETC partnered with Travel+Leisure for organizing a round-table with travel agents during which the ETC members had the chance to interact with some of the most influential travel professionals in the USA.

The ETC invited leaders from the public and private sectors to discuss the threats to Europe as world no. 1 destination.The ETC also unveiled the new Visit Europe portal and a new communication strategy at a press conference after the panel discussion.

ETC Film Awards Ceremony

Switzerland Tourism's "Time" is the winner of the first ETC Film Awards which was announced at an exclusive ceremony held in the famous Bran Castle in Romania. BBC Travel Show host Rajan Datar and CIFFT Director Alexander Kammel addressed the audience.
