Andrew Daines, Chairman of the ETC Marketing & Technology Network

 

 

Background

 

The ETC recognises that digital media and associated e-distribution channels offer affordable and creative media for reaching new markets and forming positive relationships with existing customers.

 

Member countries vary in their state of “ICT” readiness.  Each has its own mix of technologies and approaches to e-distribution.  There is a need to help member countries to communicate better and to share knowledge and expertise.  The Marketing and Technology Network was created to meet this need. 


Focus & objectives of the Marketing & Technology Network('MTN')

 

The group serves two sets of clients:

 

*           marketing and ICT personnel within the membership of ETC who wish to learn, and share knowledge and expertise, about digital technologies and their impacts; and

 

*           external clients – visitors looking for a “European experience”, and trade and supplier partners engaged in marketing Europe.

 

The group’s objectives are to :
 

a.         ensure that all marketing personnel working for the ETC-member NTOs have the opportunity to learn more about existing and emerging digital media technologies, their impact on business processes and the opportunities they offer. 

 

b.         help marketing personnel identify, select and deploy these technologies effectively in the marketing both of Europe as a whole and of their own individual countries;

 

c.         support the development of a pan-European marketing strategy by identifying ways in which new technologies can be used to compile and manage European content - and in particular through the use of the new EU-funded European tourism portal website (which went online at www.visiteurope.com on 21st March 2006).

d.         position and promote itself as the primary conduit for policy advice to the EU on the use of digital media for destination marketing.

 

e.         identify other organisations which could form partnerships or joint ventures with ETC to help it achieve its marketing objectives

 

Management Personnel

 

Membership of the Marketing and Technology Network is open to representatives of each member NTO's ICT and e-marketing departments.  The group's activities are guided by a core team, comprising
